Things to do in Venice with kids

Venice is a city that reveals itself slowly — even a lifetime wouldn’t be enough to see it all.

Still, when you’re planning a family trip to Venice with kids, making the most of the time you have really matters.

You walk a lot in Venice, so planning what to see by area is a smart way to save energy and keep kids happy. Venice is shaped like a fish and divided into six districts, called sestieri. Here are some family‑friendly highlights in each one.

If you feel like walking further, continue to the Arsenale and the Biennale Gardens, perfect for a break with kids.

CANNAREGIO

Cannaregio still preserves a strong local atmosphere, especially around Fondamenta della Misericordia, full of small places where you can try delicious cichetti. From there, passing by the impressive Madonna dell’Orto Church, you can reach the Jewish Ghetto, a place rich in history and atmosphere.

SAN POLO

The Rialto Bridge and Market are unmissable to understand Venice’s merchant past. From there, walk to:

  • Campo San Polo, the largest campo in Venice

Santa Croce is the smallest sestiere and offers quiet corners away from tourist crowds. Here you can:

Or watch local kids play in Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio, one of the most genuine squares in Venice

Things to see in venice Grand Canal

The Grand Canal: Venice from the Water

If you’re tired of walking and want to admire all six sestieri at once, take a ride along the Grand Canal, which flows through the entire city. Its palaces are stunning and are best viewed from the water: by vaporetto, water taxi, or gondola.

As a French ambassador famously said back in the 15th century, it truly is “the most beautiful street in the world.”
