Scavenger hunt in the Mysterious World of Carnival Masks
TOUR DESCRIPTION
This engaging scavenger hunt is a walking tour that can take place in different sestieri (areas) of Venice and it is suitable either for first-time visitors or for those who want to go deeper and learn more.
The format is flexible and can be adapted to different itineraries, making it very engaging for children as the main theme is the mysterious world of masks.
You can choose an itinerary starting from St Mark’s Square to see the most famous monuments, or explore off the beaten tracks in the lovely districts of Dorsoduro or San Polo. For a one-day trip, we can also start from Piazzale Roma or from the train station.
If you prefer, we can combine this treasure hunt with a visit to a magnificent palace on the Grand Canal, Ca’ Rezzonico, now the Museum of 18th-Century Venice. Among dazzling frescoes and extraordinary works of craftsmanship, it recreates the atmosphere of an authentic Venetian palace of the era. This tour offers the chance to enjoy the tranquility and comfort of a museum off the beaten path, away from the crowds, as well as the summer heat or winter chill. A true gem!
THE GAME
Would you like to be invited to a masquerade ball? You definitely need to find the right costume! Follow us on this Scavenger Hunt to discover a special outfit as we explore some of the most picturesque corners of Venice.
This scavenger hunt is a fun opportunity for the whole family to learn not only about Carnival and the fascinating world of masks, but also about theatre and the Commedia dell’Arte—a unique way to represent characters and stories, which in the 18th century was perfected by the famous Venetian playwright Carlo Goldoni.
In the outdoor version of the tour, you’ll discover hidden corners of the city and stories from everyday Venetian life — making the experience both educational and full of surprises for children and adults alike. In the indoor version, set in the elegant rooms of Ca’ Rezzonico, you’ll discover a magnificent 18th-century Venetian palace, admire extraordinary furnishings, frescoes by Tiepolo, and masterpieces that reveal the creativity and lifestyle of Venice in its final age of greatness.
Ideal for kids aged 5–12 (with a simplified preschooler version for younger siblings), and surprisingly informative even for adults.
